For Osun State, one big political drama dey unfold as the All Progressives Congress (APC) and 19 of their candidates wey dem disqualify from the forthcoming local government elections, don drag the State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, and the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) to court.
The APC and the affected candidates, through their lawyer, Mr Muhydeen Adeoye, file suit No. Hos/184/2024 against the defendants. Dem claim say OSSIEC no allow dem substitute their names, which lead to their disqualification from the February 2025 poll.
Dem ask the court to declare all the processes leading to the February 2025 poll illegal, null and void. Dem also want the court to order the defendants to pay N100 million in damages and tender a written apology for the public embarrassment and trauma dem suffer.
The claimants allege say OSSIEC fail to set up the Local Government and Area Council Election Tribunal, which mean dem no get chance to challenge their disqualification. Dem argue say OSSIEC act illegally by amending the Notice of Elections already issued and published on 19th February 2024.
Dem pray the court to declare all activities taken so far by OSSIEC as premature, illegal, null, and void. Dem also want the court to declare the Amended Notice of Elections invalid because it no comply with the stipulated number of days required under the law.
