Awka, Anambra State, Nigeria – Today na big day for Anambra State as dem dey carry out di governorship election. From early morning, people don dey line up to cast dia votes, but e no be say everywhere dey hot with crowd. In fact, as dem dey cast votes, some polling units dey quiet like church during service (no jokes!).
Di Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) don already tell us say di process go follow a series of steps. First na accreditation, then dem go vote, followed by counting, collating, and finally, declaring di results. But how long e go take? Dem say last election collect three days, so na wait and see for this one.
Di Incumbent Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo of di All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) don already cast im vote and e dey very confident say im go win by ‘landslide’ (as if dem dey blast am with confetti). E don even accuse opposition of dey buy votes, claiming dem dey offer as much as 50,000 Naira to di people. Wahala!
For dis election, over 2.8 million voters dey supposed show face, but e look like say apathy dey kick in. Only 20 polling units wey BBC News Pidgin visit show some serious action, while for others, INEC workers dey just dey chill like dem dey cruise for holiday.
Dem don already start di sorting and counting of votes by 2:30 PM across di polling units. By 3 PM, results don dey pop up for di Inec Result Viewing Portal (IRev). Dey also dey report peaceful atmosphere across di hotspots wey police dey monitor. No serious kasala wan spoil di party so far.
Di police service don stand gidigba, assure di people say dem go protect dem votes. Na area wey dey experience plenty vote buying yesterday dey get extra security o! Dem dey twin to dem padi while voters dey show dem ballot paper and dem cash for some corners. This one wey dem dey carry out na very serious matter jare, and no be small!
The youth of Anambra dey expression-less, some dey wonder wetin be di point of waiting to vote, since dem don feel say dia votes no dey ever count. As dem talk say young pipo dey sell dia future for 20,000 Naira, na so news dey spread like wildfire. One elder even come out to vote because she don dey vote since 1963! No be small wahala o!
