N250bn Debt: Telcos Wan Stop Bank Transfer Services, Seek NCC Approval

Nigerian telecommunications companies, popularly known as telcos, dey face serious financial challenges as dem owe banks over N250 billion. Because of dis debt, dem now seek approval from Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to stop bank transfer services through USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data) channels.

According to reports, telcos like MTN, Airtel, Glo, and 9mobile, dem all dey struggle to pay back dis huge debt. Dem claim say banks no dey pay dem enough for USSD transactions, and dis one dey affect dem financially.

If NCC approve dis request, it go mean say Nigerians no go fit use USSD to transfer money or do other bank transactions through their phones again. Dis decision go affect many people wey depend on USSD for their daily financial activities.

The Federal Government still no react to dis development, even though telcos threaten to stop USSD services if dem no get help. Dis silence from FG dey cause tension among Nigerians wey fear say dis go lead to more economic hardship.
