Farouk Lawan, wey be former member of the House of Representatives, don regain him freedom after serving a five-year jail term. Lawan, who was a Federal lawmaker from Kano State, was released from the Kuje Custodial Centre on October 22, 2024.
Lawan was sentenced to five years imprisonment for demanding and accepting a $500,000 bribe. Him conviction was upheld by the Supreme Court on January 26, 2024. The case involve him soliciting a $3 million bribe from Femi Otedola, a Nigerian billionaire oil tycoon, while he was serving as chairman of the House of Representatives ad-hoc committee investigating fuel subsidy fraud in 2012.
Lawan’s release come after he complete him jail term, marking an end to a long legal battle that started over a decade ago.
