The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) formally confirm Glasgow as the host city on Tuesday. The Games go run from July 23 to August 2, 2026, and go feature a streamlined 10-sport programme across four venues in Glasgow.

The sports wey go be part of the event include athletics and para athletics, swimming and para swimming, artistic gymnastics, track cycling and para track cycling, netball, weightlifting and para powerlifting, boxing, judo, bowls and para bowls, and 3×3 basketball and 3×3 wheelchair basketball. Para sports go be fully integrated into the programme, with six para sports included.

The four venues wey go host events be Scotstoun Stadium, Tollcross International Swimming Centre, Emirates Arena, and the Scottish Event Campus. The Games expect to attract around 3,000 athletes from up to 74 Commonwealth nations and territories, and over 500,000 tickets go be available for spectators.

Katie Sadleir, CEO of the CGF, say, “The Games promise to be a truly immersive festival of sport and celebration of culture and diversity that inspires athletes and sports – with a fan experience more accessible than ever before.” She also mention that the 2026 Games go be a bridge to the future of the Commonwealth Games, aiming to be more collaborative, flexible, and sustainable.

Scotland‘s First Minister, John Swinney, add that, “The Commonwealth Games is a hugely important event for Scottish sport and an exciting opportunity for the people of Scotland. Glasgow 2026 will also be a cultural celebration.” The event expect to generate over £100 million in investment for the city and contribute more than £150 million in economic benefits to the region.
