Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, don unveil 480 new Amotekun Forest Rangers on Monday, and him promise say his administration go continue to focus on security for the people of Oyo State.
The inauguration happen at the passing-out parade held at the National Youth Service Corps orientation camp in Iseyin, Iseyin Local Government Area of the state. Makinde explain say dem de plan to set up airstrips in Igbeti and Otu towns to support security surveillance with aircraft and drones.
Makinde talk say since him assume office in 2019, him government don invest heavily in security by supporting security agencies. But him know say more need to be done to secure lives and property. Him mention say the creation of Amotekun by South-West governors be one of the biggest achievements in security, and Oyo Amotekun start operation in November 2020.
These new forest rangers go work within the forests in their local government areas, alongside other stakeholders and community groups. Their task be to secure farmers and people engaged in commercial activities, and to preserve natural resources in the forests to prevent illegal activities.
The governor also talk say the new recruits will increase the number of Amotekun corps members to 2,500. Him assure say his administration go provide all the equipment and monthly operational grants needed for smooth operations. Him also approve life insurance scheme for the new recruits and increase in hardship allowance for all Amotekun members.
Makinde add say dem go employ more Amotekun Corps and set up an arm of Amotekun that will use aircraft and drones for surveillance. Two airstrips will be set up; one in Igbeti, Olorunsogo Local Government Area, and one in Otu, Itesiwaju Local Government Area, all within the next one year.
