The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) don apologize for the recent invasion of Urban Radio 94.5 FM in Enugu by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The incident happen on October 14, 2024, during a live radio show titled ‘PrimeTime’. According to NBC, the invasion was to arrest the programme’s presenter, Favour Ekoh, who dey accused of involvement in a N700 million Ponzi scheme.
NBC, through their Director of Public Affairs, Mrs Susan Obi, condemn the manner in which the arrest was carried out. Dem say the approach dey improper and could have led to public disorder, disturbance, and mass panic.
“The incursion, which was purportedly to arrest the programme’s presenter, Favour Ekoh, is viewed as a violation of the professional ethics of Broadcasting especially on a live Broadcast,” Obi say.
NBC appreciate EFCC for their efforts in fighting financial crimes but express regret over the impact of the invasion on the broadcast media and the society at large. Dem also apologize to the listening public, the people of Enugu State, and the entire broadcast industry for the incident.
Media professionals dey advised to continue upholding ethical standards while discharging their responsibility, and the public dey urged to be law-abiding as the law takes its course.
