Expert don talk say over 70% of Africa dey affected by insecurity, and dis situation no be small thing at all. According to recent report, many African countries dey face serious security challenges wey dey affect people’s lives in many ways.
Former Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo, also talk say de current insecurity for Nigeria today worse than when he be in government. He express concern over how insecurity dey spread across de continent, affecting many countries and communities.
Insecurity for Africa no be new thing, but de recent years don see increase in violent conflicts, terrorist attacks, and other forms of insecurity. Countries like Nigeria, Sudan, and Democratic Republic of Congo don experience long-term conflicts wey don claim millions of lives and displace many people.
For example, de Boko Haram insurgency wey start in 2009 don kill around 350,000 people, mostly in Nigeria but also in neighboring countries like Niger, Chad, and Cameroon. Another conflict wey happen in Tigray region of Ethiopia from 2020 to 2022 kill between 300,000 to 500,000 people, mostly due to famine.
Experts say dat de root causes of insecurity in Africa include ethnic and religious tensions, territorial disputes, and economic factors. Climate change also dey play a role as it affect agricultural production, food security, and water security, leading to more conflicts over resources.
To address dis issue, African leaders and international community need to work together to find lasting solutions. Dis include improving governance, addressing economic inequalities, and providing support to affected communities.
