Imo State Police Command don arrest popular radio presenter and activist, Mr. Chinonso Uba, wey people know as Nonsonkwa, on October 20, 2024. The arrest follow a petition from one concerned citizen over viral videos where Uba dey accused of cyberstalking, defamation, spreading misinformation, and making inflammatory statements.
The police spokesperson, Henry Okoye, confirm the arrest and clarify say Uba no be kidnapped but arrested. Okoye say the charges against Uba relate to the burning of the National Open University (NOUN) Study Centre in Nsu, Ehime Mbano Local Government Area on September 30, 2024, which incite civil unrest.
According to the police, Uba engage in activities wey spread misinformation and make inflammatory statements about the incident, including why Imo State should be used as an IDP camp instead of addressing insecurity in Ehime Mbano. The police also mention say suspected arsonists burn down the NOUN study centre and the residence of former lawmaker, Senator Frank Ibezim, in the same area.
The police assure the public say they remain committed to upholding the rule of law and maintaining peace and order in the state. They emphasize say no individual involved in the tragic attack and burning of the NOUN study centre will escape full legal consequences. Nonsonkwa is currently detained at the State Headquarters and will be arraigned in court with appropriate charges once a comprehensive investigation is completed.
