For the local government elections wey happen on Saturday for Kogi State, the All Progressives Congress (APC) don win all the 21 chairmanship seats and the 239 councillorship positions. The Chairman of the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC), Mr. Mamman Nda Eri, announce the results for Lokoja on Saturday night.
Eri commend the people of Kogi State for the peaceful way dem conduct the election. He say the results wey dem declare at the headquarters were earlier declared at the various collation centres by the respective Returning Officers. He also thank the electoral officials, security operatives, observers, and journalists for their support which make the election a success.
One of the highlights of the election be that a woman win the chairmanship position for Ogori-Magongo Local Government Area. The APC perform excellently, winning all the chairmanship and councillorship positions, leaving nothing for the other 18 political parties that participate in the election.
The Kogi NGOs Network (KONGONET), which be the apex civil society organisation in the state, praise the election for being generally peaceful. However, dem advise KOSIEC to improve on publicity and sensitization of voters to increase election turnout in the future.
A member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Eseyin Oluwakayode Emmanuel, who be a youth leader in Kabba Bunu LG, also commend the process put in place by KOSIEC. He say the peaceful conduct of the election show that lessons from previous elections have been learned and applied.
