On Saturday, a tragic accident occurred along the Ota-Idiroko Expressway in the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State, resulting in the deaths of a motorcyclist and his passenger.
According to the spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi, the accident involved a white Iveco truck with the registration number AAA 163 YJ and a motorcycle with the registration number DGB 498 UW. The motorcyclist was reported to have wrongfully overtaken the Iveco truck while speeding, leading to a collision with the truck.
The impact of the collision was fatal for both the motorcyclist and his passenger. A third person involved in the accident sustained injuries and was rescued by eyewitnesses before the arrival of the authorities. The bodies of the deceased were taken to the Ifo General Hospital morgue by TRACE operatives and the police.
Akinbiyi emphasized the dangers of excessive speed and wrongful overtaking, urging motorists to avoid such practices to prevent similar tragedies. This incident highlights the ongoing concerns about road safety in Nigeria and the need for stricter adherence to traffic rules.
