According to various sources, including Ukraine’s Center for Strategic Communication and Information Security, close to 11,000 North Korean troops dey undergo training in eastern Russia to join the conflict in Ukraine.
Ukrainian public broadcaster, Suspilne, report say around 18 North Korean soldiers don desert the frontline in Russia’s Kursk and Bryansk regions, which be just a few miles from the Ukrainian border. Kremlin fighters dey search for these soldiers.
These desertions happen as tensions dey rise over the growing military cooperation between North Korea and Russia. South Korea’s National Intelligence Service say North Korea send 1,500 special forces troops to Russia’s Far East for training and acclimatisation, with plans to deploy them for combat in Ukraine.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha call for an “immediate and strong reaction” from Ukraine’s allies, saying North Korea dey aid Russia’s invasion with troops and arms. France and other Western countries express deep concern over this development, describing it as “very worrying” and a sign of Russia’s desperation.
The involvement of North Korean troops in the Ukraine war dey seen as a significant escalation and a potential step towards a wider global conflict. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warn that this could be “the first step towards a world war”.
