Di Niger Delta Budget Monitoring Group (NDEBUMOG) recentli organize one roundtable in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, wey dem demand say womin should be includ in di management of natural resources for gender justice and greater participation.
Dem also talk say di 30 per cent womin’s economic inklushun campaign wey dey outlined in di Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) should be implement. NDEBUMOG stress say transparency in di implementation of PIA dey very important and dem advocate for training and resources to be provided to host community representatives, especially womin, to enhance dem understanding of PIA’s fiscal regime.
Di group also seek strategic partnerships and networking collaborations with non-governmental organisations, womin’s groups, and media outlets to amplify dem efforts in providing womin with di tools and platforms needed to advocate for transparency and accountability. Dem highlight initiatives wey support womin’s empowerment, such as economic incentives, healthcare, and education, as crucial areas in need of funding.
Traditional rulers, including di Chairman of di Akwa Ibom State Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers, Odidem Edet, and other paramount rulers, participate in di roundtable and lament di diminishing role of traditional rulers in governance. Dem urge di government to grant dem constitutional roles in administering di three per cent Host Communities Fund under PIA to drive gender justice and inklushun effectively.
Di Chief Executive Officer of NDEBUMOG, George-Hill Anthony, commend di traditional rulers and stakeholders for dem participation and stress di importance of an evolving global movement for womin’s participation in natural resources governance and transparency under PIA’s Host Communities Trust Funds.
