The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) don begin investigate why the national power grid dey experience multiple trips from Monday to Tuesday. This investigation come after the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, talk say the grid no collapse, but rather experience what dem call ‘trip-off’.
According to TCN spokesperson, Ndidi Mbah, the national grid experience partial disturbance on Monday around 6:48 pm, and dem start recovery process immediately. Azura power station provide the blackstart to help recover the grid, but dem encounter slight setback on Tuesday around 10:24 am during the recovery process.
Despite the setback, TCN continue with the recovery process and manage restore bulk power supply to about 90% of its substations nationwide. Power supply don return to Abuja and other major distribution load centers across the country. The Ibom Gas generating station, which was islanded from the grid, continue supply areas in the South Southern part of the country like Eket, Ekim, Uyo, and Itu 132kV transmission Substations.
Minister Adelabu explain say grid collapse mean 100% of the grid infrastructure go down, but dis one be just line tripping in certain areas. He say major centers like Abuja, Lagos, and Ibadan no affect, and dem restore power within two hours. He add say grid disturbances dey happen globally due to weather or dilapidated infrastructure, and what matter most be how quick dem respond to fix am.
TCN promise say dem go carry out thorough investigation into the cause of the incident once the grid fully restore.
