Customs Comptroller-General, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, no hold back for im press briefing as e talk say this na part of di serious wahala wey dem dey face for container diversion wey dey threaten our economy and security. E no gree make dem spoil business for Naija, as dis illegal action dey bring wahala like revenue loss and bad reputation for our country.
Adeniyi come break am down make we fit understand di gist. Seven containers of vitrified tiles wey dey valued ₦228.5 million na wetin dem catch along Hadejia Road corridor, no be small matter! And na so two containers of diesel engine oil worth ₦87.5 million and two containers of polyester materials worth ₦77.9 million follow dem catch at private warehouses for Dakata Industrial Area. Na serious matter be that!
Dem catch one container of used clothing for ₦48.4 million along di Yankaba/Hadejia Road. Four containers of printed and lace fabrics worth ₦226.1 million dey seize along di Hotoro/Maiduguri and Zaria/Kano roads. E get one container of Zamzam bottled water for ₦21.4 million wey dem catch for APM Terminal, Kano. Na hunger go kill these people!
Even three containers wey carry medical consumables and lace fabrics worth ₦25.2 million fall for their hand too. Two of dem even get court matter as dem don forfeit to di Federal Government after di judge deliver im judgment for Kano on December 10, 2025.
Adeniyi no stop there, e still talk say one Abdulrahman Sani Adam don chop three years for prison for container diversion matter. E even get option of ₦3 million fine, but to make am clear, e go sit down for di big house for some time.
To make sure say dis thing no go happen again, Customs don start to use electronic cargo tracking system. Over 40 containers don already fit am with tracking devices for Kano/Jigawa Command. Dis tracking system go chook eye for containers from di port straight to di final destination, no hiding place for bad boys.
Customs don warn importers, freight forwarders and shipping agents say make dem abide by di rules, if not, na serious wahala go follow. Dem dey ready to prosecute anybody wey break di law and impose heavy penalties. Adeniyi don promise say di Customs go do everything wey dey possible to boost trade, generate revenue, and secure di nation. E come encourage everybody to report suspicious activity to di nearest Customs office, make we all dey watch our own.
