Sanwo-Olu, wey im deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, commissioners and other cabinet members join am, visit Awoyaya, Ogombo, Sangotedo and Chevron axis of Lekki and Ajah to see di impact of flooding and check di drainage channels and waterways for di area. Di governor say di tour na to get first-hand information on di flooding situation and find immediate and long-term solutions.
According to Sanwo-Olu, di inspection show say many drainage channels and tributaries for di area still dey work well, but di amount of rain wey fall for di past few weeks too much, e don overwhelm some parts of di system, cause flooding for some communities. E explain say several natural waterways and tributaries around Lekki corridor dey discharge into Lagos Lagoon and later Atlantic Ocean, but di intensity of rain don increase water levels well well.
Di governor assure residents wey their homes and property don suffer from flooding say di government dey assess di damage and go provide relief where necessary. E say some relief centres don activate for affected residents and promise say dem go continue support for vulnerable communities. But Sanwo-Olu warn say rainy season still dey go and advise residents for low-lying and flood-prone areas to relocate temporarily to safer places whenever necessary.
Meanwhile, Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency don issue flood advisory, warning say 14 states fit experience medium flood risk between July 14 and July 20. Director-General of NIHSA, Umar Mohammed, yesterday say di advisory based on di agency latest hydrological forecast wey project localised flooding along major river channels and identify 16 monitoring stations as high-risk locations. Di affected states, according to am, include Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Bauchi, Benue, Borno, Cross River, Edo, Enugu, Imo, Kaduna, Lagos, Niger and Plateau.
