Aisha Yesufu withdraw from FCT Senate race

Nigerian activist and political ally of Peter Obi, Aisha Yesufu, don withdraw from the Nigeria Democratic Congress senatorial race for the Federal Capital Territory. Dis one bring her brief bid for the 2027 election to end.

Yesufu don declare her intention to contest the FCT senatorial seat on May 6, after she join the NDC from the African Democratic Congress. She talk say the leadership experience she gain within the party be key motivation for her ambition.

But recent developments inside the party show internal realignments over the FCT senatorial ticket. Indications be say the NDC may favour another aspirant, Amanda Pam, wey be longstanding member of the party before Yesufu defect.

For a statement on Friday, Yesufu confirm say the party no go conduct primaries for the FCT senatorial seat. Dat decision effectively end her participation for the race. She talk say, ‘Our party has decided not to conduct primaries for the Senatorial seat in FCT Abuja. It however intends to conduct primaries for the House of Representatives. Go ahead and make your choice known!’

She call on her supporters to remain calm and continue to focus on the broader political objectives ahead of the 2027 general elections. The development mark a setback for her senatorial ambition, even as e highlight ongoing internal adjustments within the NDC.

She add, ‘I urge each and everyone of you to remain calm and focus on the bigger picture which is the presidential election. Nigeria will be OK! I appreciate all your support, dedication and commitment towards #AishaForSenate project.’ She say she go continue engaging residents across the FCT.

For a separate development, Yesufu declare say elections no fit win through social media propaganda or orchestrated smear campaigns. She make dis remark for a post on her X handle on Wednesday while addressing NDC members and her supporters ahead of the party’s primaries for FCT.

According to her, political victory only fit achieve through direct engagement with the electorate based on empathy, compassion and respect. She write, ‘Election is not won by social media propaganda nor by an orchestrated smear campaign. Election is won by engaging the electorate one wishes to serve respectfully and with empathy and compassion.’

The activist urge registered NDC members for FCT to remain focused on promoting the party and electing candidates wey fit represent their interests. She talk say the era of making political choices out of fear don pass, and voters must now make decisions based on courage and belief say power belong to the people.

Yesufu also charge her supporters to continue mobilisation efforts across the 62 wards for FCT, insisting say her camp ready for the primaries. She add, ‘To my teeming supporters across the FCT, do not be deterred, continue your ground work across the 62 wards. We are ready to meet them on the primaries ground.’ She ask, ‘Who is afraid of primaries?’
