Nigerian activist and human rights champion, Aisha Yesufu, don step up her game for the Federal Capital Territory Senate race. She dey run under Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, and she don visit all six Area Councils of FCT to talk to people. She go Abaji, Kwali, Gwagwalada, Bwari, Abuja Municipal Area Council, and Kuje, where she meet party leaders, stakeholders, women groups, youths, and community representatives. Her main aim na to understand the wahala wey residents dey face, like insecurity, unemployment, bad roads, poor health care, no good education, and no enough water.
Yesufu say FCT need leadership wey go focus on people and address their problems. Security and economic empowerment dey important to make life better and bring back trust for government. She talk say, “The future of the Federal Capital Territory depends on the collective strength, unity and voices of its people. My visit to your communities is not just to seek your votes, but to listen, understand your challenges and work together towards a better and more inclusive FCT.” She promise to keep engaging with residents to make sure their concerns show for her policies.
For interview on Channels TV Sunday Politics, Yesufu brush aside talk say FCT Minister Nyesom Wike go affect her ambition. She say, “I don’t have a Wike to contend with because that’s an appointee. I’m not in the business of appointments. I’m in the business of looking for the mandate of the people.” She make clear say she no dey fight appointees, but she dey seek people’s votes. She urge Abuja residents and NDC members to come out for primaries, because popularity alone no go win election.
Yesufu also yarn about the internal crisis wey dey rock African Democratic Congress, ADC, where she bin be member before. She call the situation “heartbreaking” and say e dey hurt Nigeria democracy. She note say strong political parties dey important for national progress. The FCT Senate race dey hot for 2027, with three main contenders: incumbent Senator Ireti Kingibe, former Senator Philip Aduda, and Yesufu if she win her party ticket. Kingibe don already secure ADC ticket, Aduda emerge for APC, but Wike influence still dey strong for the area.
For her X handle, Yesufu declare say election no be social media propaganda or smear campaign. She write, “Election is not won by social media propaganda nor by an orchestrated smear campaign. Election is won by engaging the electorate one wishes to serve respectfully and with empathy and compassion.” She tell NDC members to focus on promoting the party and electing candidates wey go represent their interest. Yesufu charge her supporters to continue mobilisation across all 62 wards for FCT, insisting say her camp dey ready for primaries.
