World Health Organization don announce say one patient wey get Ebola don recover for Democratic Republic of Congo. According to WHO, di patient bin leave hospital on May 27 and don go back to community.
Anais Legand, wey be WHO technical officer, tell reporters say dis na di first confirmed recovery among patients wey test positive for Ebola. But she add say e get hope say oda people wey no get lab confirmation still fit don recover.
Legand explain say di patient bin get two negative tests before dem discharge am. Since di outbreak bin declare on May 15, WHO don record 17 confirmed deaths and 223 suspected deaths from Ebola for DRC. Dem also get 125 confirmed cases and over 900 suspected cases.
Di current outbreak na from Bundibugyo strain of Ebola, wey no get vaccine or special treatment. Dis strain fit kill up to 50 percent of people wey catch am. But for dis outbreak, di death rate dey below 25 percent for known cases, though di number dey change.
Legand stress say early treatment fit help people survive. She say dem expect more people go recover.
But di fight against Ebola no dey easy. Conflict for DRC dey make response hard. Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO director-general, warn say Ituri province dey face serious problem of disease and war. He say dem no fit build trust or isolate sick people while bombs dey fall.
Uganda don close dia border with DRC. Canada don ban residents from DRC, Uganda, and South Sudan for 90 days. Bahamas and US also impose travel restrictions.
DRC health authorities say around 1,000 people dey show symptoms of Ebola. MSF director Ewald Stals tell BBC say e go take weeks to get proper infrastructure to contain di outbreak. He say dem still no get full picture of wetin dey happen, and dat na because testing no dey enough.
European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control say dem go increase dia presence on ground, deploy experts via EU Health Task Force.
