Aliko Dangote, Africa number one industrialist and Dangote Group President, don talk say im fit build refinery for East Africa wey go be like the one for Lagos, but only if dem get proper support.
Dangote make this pledge for the Africa We Build Summit 2026 wey happen for Nairobi, Kenya, on Thursday.
According to Dangote, e say: “I fit give commitment to the two presidents wey dey here; if dem go support the refinery, we go build the identical one wey we get for Nigeria – 650,000 barrels per day.”
The two presidents wey Dangote refer to na Kenya President William Ruto and Uganda President Yoweri Museveni.
The proposed refinery go dey built for Tanga, Tanzania, and e go get pipeline wey go link to Kenya Mombasa port, so that the whole East African region go benefit.
Countries like Kenya, Uganda, and other Eastern Africa neighbours go enjoy from the refinery.
For the readiness side, Dangote talk say: “There is nothing wey fit stop am. We don do the one for Nigeria and that why we dey take the bold move wey we already start.”
E explain say the refinery capacity na 10 percent of the entire United States of America refining capacity, and e go come with plenty petrochemicals.
Dangote yarn say: “If we look at am today for Nigeria, if not because we get polypropylene, all the plants, all businesses go collapse. Cement dey packed for polypropylene, flour, rice, grains, everything. So nothing… and the cost now don shoot up between just 45 days – from $900 to $3,000. There is no way you fit afford that. You no fit afford am. So, that why we must learn how to build self-sufficiency.”
E add say: “Right now, we get big financial institutions wey dey very hungry for big ticket items. And we also big for our own vision. So, e possible. Africans fit do am. Make we no fear. No. Make we no come dey convinced, as I know somebody need to carry our own material to go and produce and bring the items here.”
Dangote thank Uganda President for taking bold move to stop export of raw materials, and e say: “Dem go be forced. Dem go come produce. Why you go take your material go, then you go bring am back? We get educated people. We get big financial institutions. E no be like before. Things don change.”
