Landlords: Arrange compound sanitation plan so evribody go get dia cleaning work at least two days to sanitation. Make sure say drainage and gutter inside and around di compound dey fully cleared. Give compound pipo correct dustbins and place to drop dia doti inside compound. Maintain soakaways so e no go leak go outside. Make sure say tenants and family members work dat day. Report illegal dumping give LAWMA.
Business owners: Dem dey responsible to clean dia side for di sanitation time. All di doti from business must dey ready for pickup by LAWMA by 8:30am. Dis business must get sanitation coordinator wey go arrange staff and facility cleaning. Businesses dem wey get hazardous or medical waste no fit use LAWMA and must use LASEPA licensed contractors.
Community leaders: Arrange community cleaning for public spaces like bus stops, street pavement, etc. Tell household for yard wen sanitation go happen and wetin be di rules two days in advance. Arrange wit LAWMA district office at least five days in advance to know wia and wen dem dey come collect doti. Submit post sanitation compliance summary give Local Government Sanitation Officer within two days.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, residents were urged to clean their surroundings and clear drainage channels in front of their homes before proceeding with other activities after the exercise. Wahab disclosed that adequate evacuation and compactor trucks have been deployed across the state, with the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) strategically positioned to promptly remove solid waste and debris generated during the exercise.
To underscore the government’s commitment, top officials will monitor compliance across various locations. Di wife of di Lagos State Governor, Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, alongside members of di Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO), go lead a monitoring team, while di Head of Service, Olabode Agoro, go head another team in a separate local government area.
Di Commissioner further noted that major transport unions in di state have pledged not to operate vehicles from parks and terminals during di sanitation period, as a demonstration of support for di initiative. E explain say di reintroduction of di monthly sanitation exercise followed sustained calls from residents advocating for a dedicated time to maintain cleanliness in dia communities.
Community Development Associations (CDAs) were also urged to mobilise dia members to ensure full participation and revive di culture of collective environmental responsibility. Wahab added that all local governments and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), alongside some private organisations, dey support di exercise by providing tools and waste evacuation vehicles.
E warn say environmental health and enforcement officers go dey deployed across neighbourhoods to monitor compliance. Defaulters risk to receive abatement notices and fit face prosecution in accordance wit di Lagos State Environmental Management Law of 2017 and oda relevant regulations.
