My people, Lagos State no dey dull when e come to accountability o! Dem don start serious audit for 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas. Na di Chairman of House Committee on Public Accounts (Local), Nureni Akinsanya, wey initiate dis one for Lateef Jakande Hall for Ikeja. E talk say dis audit go make sure say money wey dey flow for ground go follow correct route.
Akinsanya drop am hot, say di whole wahala na to promote transparency and ensure say dem dey manage public funds well for di grassroots level. Na according to Section 52 of di Local Government Administration Law 2024, and dem rule wey dey govern di Lagos Assembly. E no wan any council oga dey chop money anyhow again, abeg!
According to di man wey sabi, di audit go help dem detect any lapse wey dey happen and show council officials how dem suppose handle public resources. E talk am like dis: “Dis exercise dey important to check records and see whether dem dey do things correct or wrong.” Dem go use dis chance correct any missteps wey don already waka come.
Akinsanya look confident as he dey yam, say dis audit suppose correct plenty things and make sure say all di council chairmen and oga everywhere dey follow di law. E talk say dem go review di 2023 report wey auditor-general drop for local governments, and dem go run di review with clear eyes, no be any ‘favor-favor’ matter.
Di committee go call plenty people including chairmen, vice chairmen, leaders, and even council managers to come answer questions. Everybody wey get hand for di council matter go show face, no shaking. Di chairman promise say, when dem finish di audit, dem go lay out all di findings and recommendations for di House to take action on dem.
No be small matter o! Di News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) don report say places like Epe LGA, Ikoyi-Obalende LCDA, Ifelodun LCDA, Agboyi-Ketu LCDA, and Ojo LGA don ready to face di auditors first. Na serious business we dey talk about here o! Make dem no forget say accountability na wetin democracy be, and Lagos dey set standard for how e supposed be.
