AfDB don launch Green Hydrogen Programme for Africa, dey find proposals

Wetin dey happen? African Development Bank (AfDB) don open one new programme wey dem dey call Green Hydrogen Programme. Na under dem Sustainable Energy Fund for Africa (SEFA) dis one dey. Dem say dem don launch Call for Proposals for private sector pipo wey dey develop green hydrogen projects for Africa.

Dis programme get money from German government. Dem approve am for end of 2025. Now, dem ready to give pre-investment financing reach $20 million. Dem go select three to five top projects wey dem go support.

How dem go give the money? Dem say na through reimbursable grants. Dis money go help for advisory services to make projects reach Final Investment Decision stage. For example, money fit go for feasibility studies, engineering design, or transaction advisory services.

Dr Daniel Schroth, wey be Director of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Department for AfDB, talk say green hydrogen na real opportunity for Africa. E say e fit help decarbonise industries wey hard to change. E fit also build new value chains and contribute to socio-economic development.

Dr Schroth yarn again say SEFA Green Hydrogen Programme dey designed to help projects move from development stage to bankability stage. E talk say dem need rigour because na emerging sector.

When application go open? Dem say 10 April 2026 by 09:30 GMT. Proposal submission deadline na 11 May 2026 by 17:00 Abidjan time. All pipo wey get interest must submit through sefaafrica.org.

Full details, eligibility criteria, and application questionnaire dey available for the website. SEFA na multi-donor Special Fund wey dey provide catalytic finance to unlock private sector investments for renewable energy and energy efficiency.

Wetin SEFA dey do? Dem dey offer technical assistance and concessional finance instruments to remove market barriers. Dem dey help build better pipeline of projects and improve risk-return profile of investments.
