My people, wahala dey on top this Owo church attack matter wey happen for June 5, 2022. Just yesterday, Federal High Court for Abuja don admit confessional statements from four guys wey dey face trial over the incident wey claim plenty lives.
Justice Emeka Nwite no gree for the defense wey wan do trial-within-trial as e rule say the statements fit enter court. The four guys wey dem catch – Al-Qasim Idris, his brother Abdul-Halil Idris, Omeiza Abdulmalik and im brother Jamiu Abdulmalik – na serious charges of terrorism dey face from Department of State Services (DSS), wey no wan last for the matter wey carry over 40 worshippers go meet their maker.
As e be, one investigator wey dem call SSJ come testify say hin be the officer wey dey show them wetin dem talk during question time. Dem ask the guys question, and SSJ talk say dem no sabi write for English, but dem fit speak small pidgin. Na so e maintain say e don collect permission from dem before e blow the whistle on their confessions.
Omo, wetin go pain you pass be say, defense lawyer A.A. Muhammad come dey argue say the statements wey DSS collect no valid, and come dey shout say dem torture dem for Akure before dem record the statements. E no stop there, e talk say some signatures no even dey correct for the documents.
But Justice Nwite no hear word, e chop the defense talk like say na joke. E generalize say “I dey feel say the statements dey valid… I no dey accept that roast,” as e overrule their objection. Na so the statements wey dem collect on August 18, 2022, don turn Exhibit O, P, Q, and R.
Trial don move to the next level, and dem don adjourn the matter go February 19, 2026, make dem fit continue the cross-examination of the witness. Na serious matter we dey follow for this case, but my gist no finish here o, make we continue dey watch as e dey unfold.
