Omo! Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu don turn up for sports matter again, as he just launch Lagos State Sports Trust Fund (LSSTF) wey go carry grassroots sports go new height. E gather everybody wey get sense for sports matter come talk say make dem mobilise money and resources wey go help keep Lagos sports alive.
As e dey talk for Lagos House, Sanwo-Olu no dull. Him call the newly appointed board members say dem suppose use their connections and expertise to fund sports and build proper institutions wey go support athletes now and for future. Na so sport go dey flourish if dem fit put head together.
“My people, this mandate na simple. Use una contacts and professional background to fund sports matter,” na wetin the governor yarn. E also highlight say grassroots sports dey important make every division grow, alongside maintaining the sporting facilities wey don dey suffer from neglect. “We need to put more resources for grassroots and school sports, so athletes fit thrive well,” him add.
The trust fund dey designed to bridge the gap between government and private sector involvement for sports development. According to Sanwo-Olu, plenty organisations dey willing to support but dem dey reluctant to take the first step to approach government. “This quasi-body go fit run and reach private sector while go dey collect the past experience from government,” him talk.
Enitan Oshodi, wey be the chairman of the board, don declare say dem go dey focus on creating ways wey go allow for sustainable funding for athlete support and infrastructure development. “This Lagos State Government dey spend plenty money for sport, but na still no go reach for over 20 million people wey dey live here.”
Oshodi stress say private sector must chip in, as successful sports countries dey rely plenty on private investment to thrive. “We believe say with our capacity for this board, we go fit attract strong support from corporate bodies.” Him dey optimistic say quick wins and long-term sustainable development go come out from this partnership.
