Na wetin our oga, Muhammad Ahmad, Director of Information for the Federal Ministry of Works, talk after dem tour the project site and cut cake for Kaga-Gubio road work for Maiduguri. Dis road project dey first awarded since 2018, but my brothers and sisters, insecurity don hold am like say na switch.
Ahmad say, “NSA and military dey assure say dem go provide security for workers wey go dey handle dis road wahala.” E no fit talk say na only this road dey suffer from gbege matter, because insecurity dey tick for Northern Nigeria like agbada for senator.”
Our Federal Controller of Works for Borno, Salisu Adamu, scatter more gist as e yarn about the Monguno-Maiduguri road rehabilitation wey dey stretch 105.5 kilometres. E come explain say di road don change since dem first award am, changing from flexible pavement to asphaltic concrete shoulders because money don increase—we still dey feel am for pocket! The initial cost wey dem talk be N21.7 billion, but now wey dem adjust di contract, na N28.35 billion be di new figure. Na wetin dem dey use Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited funding follow!
Salisu come dey burst our bubbles as e talk say na only 5.85 kilometres of work don dey finish so far. 24.15 kilometres still dey wait for dem to complete under Phase I, plus N9.54 billion still dey gree soldier no pay am yet. Di project don dey sit-down for about 5.46 percent completion, and na June 10, 2028 dem dey plan to finish all dis wahala.”
Omo! Dem don face serious challenges as di materials wey dem need for di road dey come from far far distance like Shira wey be 450 kilometres away! Na who dem go send everyday? Dem dey use long long routes to carry all di materials because of insecurity. Na wah! Dey even dey carry di equipment everyday for security of dem.
But no worry, Salisu don get plans, as e dey call for special security arrangement between military and Borno State Government. Dem need better funding to cover security wahala wey don dey come small small. E still talk say NNPC wey gree join the matter don help fasten work at di site small-small, di progress dey show like sunshine!
E also add say Kaga-Gubio road na another critical road wey go connect farmers from rural areas to better markets in town, wetin dey help dem sell dem agricultural materials quicker. Di chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists for Borno, Haruna Abdulkareem, don launch Kaga-Gubio 1.5km road on behalf of di Minister, and e dey encourage more collaboration with media so that the public fit sabi wetin dey happen with dem money. Na to shine light for every corner!
See ehn, dis new developments and road restorations no be small wahala. E go change how people dey move and do business, as rural dwellers go get beta access to markets. Na still wetin we go dey watch out for, because progress nor dey hold back!
