Federal Government Capital Spending Don Drop, Contractors Dey Protest

Omo, na serious wahala be this o! Federal Government don dey face serious cash crunch, as dem capital spending don waka go down for the past three years. E no dey sweet as dem retain revenue dey grow, but debt service dey chop all the money like say na suya!

According to report wey The PUNCH drop, MDAs (Ministries, Departments, and Agencies) no fit chop money wey dem suppose use do work well. For the past three years, dem dey face N15.21 trillion gap wey no gree abeg make dem spend well for capital projects. Na serious underfunding, my people!

As dem budgeted N27.33 trillion, wetin dem actually spend na just N12.13 trillion. If we calculate am, na only 44.37% of the money dem get do MDAs work. Dis one mean say, plenty projects wey dem plan no fit see light of day. For 2023, dem budget N5.31 trillion but wetin dem spent na N3.25 trillion, wey show say na wahala just dey start.

Even for 2024, dem try raise the budget to N11.21 trillion, but wetin happen? Only N5.81 trillion come dey used. The breakdown show say dem still leave N5.40 trillion hanging. By 2025, the matter come dey worse. Dem budget N18.53 trillion but wetin dem spend for January to July na just N834.80 billion. This na one sad story wey nobody fit enjoy.

Now, we dey hear say contractors wey dey handle federal road projects don gather, and dem no gree hide their face again. Dem dey protest hard for Ministry of Finance because of N4 trillion wey Federal Government owe dem. Dem wan make dem release N760 billion wey dem promise. Dem even carry coffin come front of ministry to show say the money matter don dey cause serious wahala for dem.

The Minister of Works don talk say dem go clear all the debts before December end. But we sabi say contract no be beans for Naija. Dem don promise before, we sabi wetin don happen. For President Bola Tinubu, he don realize say this money matter no fit continue like dis, as e don talk make National Assembly approve more time to carry out 2025 budget. E wan make sure say at least 30% of the capital allocations come out to help all MDAs.

People dey blame the current arrangement wey don turn budget execution to wahala. E no dey sweet as e dey affect projects all over. As e be now, classrooms, roads, and even hospitals dey suffer. Capital spending no fit meet up with the pressure wey debt service dey bring come. Na true reality we dey face wey need serious attention.
