Dem don start this Drivers’ Care Initiative wey go make sure say all di commercial drivers get proper health check, especially for eye matter. Na to reduce di rising wahala of accidents wey dey happen for our roads, especially for di Lekki area wey na beta hotspot.
According to di Senior Special Assistant to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Transport and Logistics, Hassan Adekoya, na about 2,000 drivers dem dey target for dis outreach, wey dey include eye tests, drug tests, and training wey go help drivers dey alert and healthy.
He talk say as dem catch di drivers with correct eye sight and mind wey dey sharp, di roads go dey safer, and our economy go dey boom. Dem don see say once drivers fit drive well, everybody go dey happy!
Mrs. Afusat Tiamiyu, di General Manager of Lagos State Drivers’ Institute, come show say Governor Sanwo-Olu don give dem order to train about 2,000 drivers free of charge within 48 hours. E sure say dis one go increase driver competence and help reduce accidents wey fit happen because some drivers no sabi road well.
No be only eye and training dem dey do o! Di National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) come join body for di program to run drug tests and provide counseling for drivers wey dey take drugs. Na serious matter, as Deputy Commander in charge of Narcotics for NDLEA Lagos, Titilope Ogunluyi, talk say prevention better pass cure.
For di drivers wey show up, dem no waste time to talk say di initiative na welcome development. Dem don dey realize say poor eyesight, fatigue, and drug use dey cause many accident for Lagos road. Di Branch Secretary of Nigeria Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Hakeem Olaiya, come yan say dem go carry di message of dis program go meet all di drivers to ensure dem no touch drugs again.
