The Managing Director, Mr. Muyiwa Gbedegesin, comot mouth with the gist say dem go ramp up enforcement against those wey no sabi keep their environment clean.
As e be, the matter no be joke. Many residents dey reason say dem fit just drop their waste for road, abi? Na so wahala dey come. Gbedegesin yan say na di attitude of people wey dey dump refuse for roadside dey cause LAWMA plenty wahala. Dem dey expect say LAWMA trucks go just show up like magic and carry their dirt, but e no be so e go dey again. Wetin be dis? Na only una wan waste our resources?
Him come tell us say, “We no too sabi how to collect rubbish when una dey drop am for road. Na Private Sector People suppose collect am directly from una house, no be to leave am for road.” E add say anytime dem clear dem rubbish, another set of people go just come drop new ones like say dem dey play. That na the reason wey LAWMA go increase capacity to catch more offenders. Last year alone, dem arrest over 1,000 people and out of that, 447 don face di music inside court. Some dey serve jail terms, while others dey do community service. E be like say na serious matter be this!
E don start again this year o! Four miscreants don catch for Ladipo area just this Monday. LAWMA no dey play, dem dey take dem go Oshodi for prosecution. If you dey think say dem go show you mercy, no be so e go be again. “By law, everybody suppose keep their front clean, no be to clutter road with waste,” Gbedegesin yan.
Plus, e talk say dem don bring back environmental health officers to dey monitor and enforce cleanliness. Dem don employ 300 new officers, and e don already add 77 to the crew, total wey dey go round now na 377 big boys and girls wey go dey handle the wahala for every ward. Dem go dey knock on doors, do sensitisation and enforce rules as e be, including the ‘wole wole’ system for those wey no dey clean up their front door. Chai! E no go funny if dem catch you!
Gbedegesin no stop there, oh! He come plan say dem go begin dey give award for di cleanest wards and local governments to ginger pipo to keep their area clean. Wetin be this? E get as e sweet when pipo dey compete to keep their environment better! Dem also talk say e be serious matter, and we no fit dey allow rubbish pile-up so disease no go burst out like wetin some residents don dey fear since last November when roads dey littered with dirt.
