Dem dey call this project 240236 o, title na “Emergency Capacity Building of the Informal Food and Water Vendors and Waste Workers in Flood-Affected Lagos to Combat Cholera Outbreaks.” Na wah! This one na to make sure say our food vendors, water sellers and wey no fit carry waste waka go far, sabi how to keep their business and community clean.
Before this Badagry wahala, dem don do awareness seminar for places like Lagos Island, Alimosho, Ojo, Kosofe, Ikorodu and Lagos Mainland. Dis one na the eighth session wey dem don run. E happen for Custom Quarters, Seme Border, Badagry, and stoop there, e gather plenty people: food and water vendors, students, artisans, market leaders, and environ health officials.
Dem dey talk about how to keep area clean, how to handle food well, how to make sure water wey we de drink no go turn to poison. Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, the General Manager of LASEPA, come clear us say dem go dey identify anywhere water fit dey contaminated, and dem dey serious about public awareness. No wahala o!
Ajayi no forget to show appreciation for UNIDO and Japan wey dey support this project wella. Him talk sey education dey important to make sure say people for ground sabi how to take care of their health. E también yan sey dem go dey intensify environmental health enforcement. Dem no wan hear story again!
Another person wey dey talk, Adefemi Afolabi wey represent Lagos State Wastewater Management Office, warn us say cholera no be joke! E fit carry person go grave if we no take am serious. Him talk sey if water we dey drink no pure, if we dey do open defecation, and if we dey dispose waste anyhow, na so cholera go enter our life.
Sesi Okoosi-Adepoju wey dey represent Badagry West LCDA chairman, don hammer on how important am to keep our environment clean. She commend UNIDO and LASEPA for their grassroots sensitisation. E no dey easy but we go fit do am together!
Chief Bokoh Jacob, the Baale of Ogblogbo, talk sey e appreciate the initiative but appeal to Lagos State Government make dem bring pipe-borne water come their area. Because wetin dem get now na well water, wey fit cause health wahala. This event carry plenty big men come, including leaders from various communities wey dey fight cholera together.
