Naija Still De Struggle for Corruption Matter, Score No Change

My people, wahala no fit finish for Naija oh! As e be now, we dey still dey struggle with this corruption matter. According to the latest report wey dem drop from the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) wey sabi Control International, we no make any significant move for our anti-corruption efforts for 2025. Nigeria still gree score only 26 out of 100 for the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI).

Dem reveal this report last week for Abuja, and e show say we don drop two places for global ranking from 140th position to 142nd out of 180 countries. No be small matter! This one mean say corruption still dey run things for here, and we go need plenty work to do if we wan change am.

According to dem, dis report dey reflect the perception wey people get about corruption for Nigeria. Corruption and nepotism dey cause serious wahala for our judiciary, and as e be, lawmakers dey collect bribes like say dem dey share sweet. Oil theft and subsidy fraud dey hurt our revenue too, with plenty money waka away without any accountability. My people, wetin we go do now?

CISLAC Executive Director, Auwal Rafsanjani, come talk say we see only small improvement for some areas due to better asset recovery and pressure from civil society groups. But he also stress say these small small gains no dey change how people see corruption for Naija.

Him yan say, “Even with the challenges wey we dey face, we don still record some progress for asset recovery and international compliance.” But he still dey talk say we need deeper reforms to make things better and push for transparency and accountability.

Umar Yakubu, wey be Director for Fiscal Transparency and Public Integrity, come add say we still get serious issues for governance sectors. E talk say corruption still dey affect our judiciary, National Assembly, and oil sector. No be small matter oh!

Corruption dey vex road for our health and security sectors, and e dey frustrate the life of every Naija paddy. Blessing Anolaba from Accountability Lab Nigeria talk say sapa dey allow corruption to flourish, especially with all the journalism attacks and intimidation wey journalists dey face. Na dem dey help us catch wicked men for government!

Folashade Arigbabu wey dey Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, call on government make dem find better ways to support anti-graft agencies. She sey, “If we no make these agencies independent, nothing go change.” Na true talk!

As we dey gree dey fight this corruption, CISLAC come advise say make dem pass the Whistleblower Protection Bill and allow electronic transmission of election results. Dem dey see am say these moves go help reduce electoral manipulation and corruption in our dear country.

Naija people, we gree say we need join hands with civil society and media to fit combat this corruption wey still dey catch us for where we no expect. No be work wey fit end as e no be short-term problem, but na long game we dey play.
