Na wa o! Peter Obi don show face for Naija as e join plenty protesters wey dey vex for National Assembly for Abuja. Dem dey protest about election matter wey fit determine how 2027 elections go be. Dem call am ‘Occupy the National Assembly’, and no be small drama wey happen there.
As dem dey protest, dem dey chant say ‘Our Votes Must Count’ and ‘No to Electoral Robbery’. E get as e be, because Senate don decide to remove ‘real-time’ from the electoral law wey go make sure dem fit transmit election results electronically. E be like say dem wan turn am to old school manual wahala again.
Obi come mark im territory, e use im mouth warn say Naija dey slide back to dark days of electoral thievery. E dey reason say, ‘If we no stop this criminality, we no go see the light wey dey for Africa.’ E emphasize say credible elections na the key for development, peace and unity for the country.
Dr. Yunusa Tanko, wey be National Coordinator for Obidient Movement Worldwide, don vow say dem go continue the protest until National Assembly reinsert wetin dem remove. ‘If dem no fit carry electronic transmission come back, make dem prepare no election at all!’ na wetin Tanko talk. Dem dey serious for this matter, sha.
Not only Obi dey side the protesters, this matter don catch the attention of another big lawyer, Dr. Olisa Agbakoba. E don support the call for the Senate to change their mind, say na real-time electronic transmission go help make things clearer for the elections. E come dey reason say failure to do so go make sure more wahala and court issues dey arise, nko!
Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) dey shout say the move wey Senate make no good at all. Dem talk say this thing wey dem dey do fit spoil the people trust for democratic process. ‘If Nigeria no fit embrace technology like others, wetin we dey find?’ na wetin NGE dey ask.
As the crowd dey gather like bees around honey, some dem even bring mattress and pillow come. Na so dem show say dem no wan budge until their demands hear am. Dem no go leave until National Assembly carry out wetin dem dey ask for!
But wahala no fit finish there o. Civil society group, Leadership Orientation and Basic Rights Advocacy Centre (LOBRAC), dey fire Senate say dem dey threaten democracy with this denial. Dem don make am clear say if dem no approve the e-transmission, na serious gbege go dey happen.
HURIWA also join the matter, dem talk say dem dey call on police to make sure dem no scatter the peaceful protest. E get as e be, because Naija people don tire for this political nonsense. Everybody dey reason the same thing: make our votes count!
Tomorrow the Senate go gather again, e go really determine if dem go listen to the people, or dem go just dey do their own thing like say na em get the country. But one thing wey sure be say, Naija no go rest until dem hear say real-time electronic transmission of results don enter law. Make we dey watch as the drama dey unfold, my people!
