Idris Lawal, wey be member of the Road Transport Employees Association for di area, don talk say na the residents and people wey dey pass by dey cause the problem with their indiscriminate dumping. E drop this alert: “When we shout at dem, dem go stop for daytime but as night don waka come, dem go come back again. The last major clean-up na two months ago, but na wetin dem go clean be wahala again – before you know, the place don full.”

Traders no dey smile again as dem lament say this refuse dump don turn health risk for dem. Mustapha Salami, wey dey sell for front, talk say, “E no good for our health, but wetin we go fit do? We dey sell during daytime and dey run come evening.”

Peace Igeabor wey also dey sell got mind talk say some people dey collect money from traders claiming say dem go clear the refuse, but nothing don happen. “Dem don ask us make we contribute money for clean-up, but e be like say na just talk.” E sound like say people dey chop money wey dem suppose use clear the refuse.

When dem contact Rotimi Oduniyi, wey be spokesperson for Ogun State Ministry of Environment, e drop bombshell say di refuse dump na illegal and the government no sabi anything about am. E talk say dem don assign Waste Private Sector Partnership (PSP) operators to dey collect refuse from the market properly. E don drop warning say if dis illegal dump site no clear, e fit lead to sanction wey go fit include closing down di market.

Oduniyi talk say, “We don assign PSP operators, dem suppose dey collect di waste regularly, and di government dey support part of di cost. For public interest, trading no fit continue for dis kind unhealthy environment. Dem must cooperate with di PSP and stop to dey create illegal dump sites.”
