E no be say na only physical gbemiga wey dey happen, digital violence don waka enter naija space proper! Women and girls dey face hot wahala online, dem dey get harassment, threats, and e plenty no be small. Chatting for social media don turn battle ground as people dey unleash venom wey fit damage life.
For this kain palaver, Christians get serious work for hand. E no go make sense make we dey quiet or just dey look like say e no concern us. Our teaching say every person na image of God, so when dem dey abuse dem online, na the very dignity wey God put for dem wey dem dey tarnish!
Just like Jesus self, wey no dey carry last when e come to protect the vulnerable. Make una no forget how Jesus dey show respect for women wey dem fit talk anyhow for dem time. Na wetin we suppose emulate, no be to dey turn blind eye as our people dey suffer for online space.
But one wahala be say, many churches dey underplay this digital violence. Dem dey talk say e be like say na just online matter, as if e no get real impact! When woman dey face abuse, wetin be the first question wey dem dey ask? “Why you post your picture?” “You no suppose dey online o!” Na dem go dey call victim blame instead of pointing finger for the real abuser. Na wetin the Gospel dey teach us say we suppose show compassion, not judgement!
For churches to truly make difference, we need to create ogbonge avenue for healing and support. Men wey dey inside church need to learn respect, and say misogyny no be correct both online and offline. We dey need catechists and community leaders to open eye well as e concern digital gbemiga, so dem fit help victims with the right response and understanding.
No be only personal behaviour dey matter o, the church too need to talk up! We don see am how Christians dey stand against bad things before; now na the time to push against digital violence as well. Make all the priests, lay leaders, and activists wey sabi carry this matter for head push for proper policies wey go protect our people.
As we dey navigate this digital age, we suppose redefine wetin it mean to care for souls. Digital violence dey real, and e dey cause serious issues for mental health. If we believe say everybody na temple of the Holy Spirit, why we go dey abuse dem online?
The call now be say, make we stand up against digital violence. Misogyny and mental harm no suppose follow Christian way. We need to create an environment wey respect women and girls, where their voices dey matter. Ending this gbemiga no be jolly matter; e require wisdom, courage, and the heart to change!
