My people, wetin happen for Kano no be small matter o! Last weekend, dem carry wahala come our door when dem butcher one mama and her six pikin for Dorayi Chiranchi quarters. E shock everywhere, and the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) don talk say na drug wahala wey cause this kind evil.
Dem identify the victims as Fatima Abubakar and her six children. Na serious news wey pass like fire! During one meeting wey dem hold for Kano with Muryar Matan Arewa and League for Societal Protection Against Drug Abuse (LESPADA), Dr. Goni Umar Faruk, wey be ACF chairman for the state, no hide mouth as him yarn gists about drugs wey dey push people do bad things.
According to am, “If you see person wey dey kill children like this, him dey under drug influence or him dey join cult.” Chai! As e be like this, e no dey show say nobody even try help or stop di person when the wahala dey happen. Dr. Faruk dey vex say community no dey stand together to protect each other. Na wetin cause this level of breaking down for our society, my people!
He talk say make communities start to police dem area by themselves, and dem go form one committee wey go involve traditional, religious, and community leaders to protect their people. Na serious matter, o! Because wahala no dey wait for anybody.
Dr. Faruk also suggest say make government sharpen the way dem dey sell weapons. E sure say if dem fit require people wey wan buy gun to show documents and do thumbprint, e go help track down all the bad guys. And no forget, ACF dey plan to share interest-free loans of ₦100,000 to 1,000 youths before June end. Na better initiative wey go help some youth stand well for life!
Binta Mukhtar Shata, wey be Executive Director for Muryar Matan Arewa, don talk say dem dey fear for di future because mothers dey fear for their own children now. “We need justice for those wey do this bad thing and make dem face di music,” she talk. She also mention say dem go dey hold annual meet-ups to strengthen families and discuss how to make their homes safer.
Maryam Hassan, di Executive Secretary of LESPADA, talk say di killings don open many people’s eye, even beyond Kano. “Government dey try, but e no fit do am alone. Communities must join hands, especially for solving drug wahala. No sane person go kill another without drugs involvement,” she add, as she link many of di wahala wey dey happen now, like thuggery and phone snatching, to drug abuse.
This whole matter don show say collaboration between communities, civil society, and government dey very important to stop di drug wahala wey dey spread for the northern part of Nigeria. We need to wake up and tackle this issue for our own good, no be so? Abeg, make we shine our eyes!
