60 Years After Sardauna: North Dey Reflect, Gist About Him

My people, make we gist about wetin dey happen for the North. Dem Northern socio-political groups don gather yarn about wetin happen since the sad day of January 15, 1966, when dem kill our beloved Sardauna of Sokoto, Sir Ahmadu Bello. Na five decades and some small years wey don pass, but dem still dey feel the impact of that tragedy, no be small.

For one press briefing wey dem hold for Kaduna, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Arewa Consultative Forum, Bashir Dalhatu, carry the gist come as dem prepare for conference wey dem name “60 Years Without the Sardauna.” Na April 2026 dem go hold am, and you no fit imagine the kind people wey go show face. From time past, that man dey bring Northern Nigeria together with im leadership style, but since e waka, everything scatter.

Dalhatu remind everybody say this guy wey dem kill, Sardauna, and other leaders, na during the coup wey Major Kaduna Nzeogwu dey lead. No be just am o, dem also kill Nigeria Prime Minister, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, and the Premier of the Western Region, Chief Ladoke Akintola. That one na serious wahala wey lead to plenty crisis and eventually civil war.

As dem dey commemorate this day, make we no forget say the military don sacrifice plenty, but na true say some part of our history need to dey told. Dalhatu talk say the Sardauna na person wey get vision, love unity, and he no dey play with integrity for public office. He invest plenty for education, health, and all those infrastructures wey we dey see today. Ahmadu Bello University? Na him legacy too, and dem no fit forget that one!

But e no be all smooth things, sha! Dalhatu sharp sharp observe say over 70% of the youths for Northern Nigeria never see that kind leadership wey Sardauna bring. Dem dey marvel when dem hear the things wey he do, because their own reality no dey match wetin wey dem dey hear. The rise of out-of-school children and the Almajiri system still dey cause trouble, and the security wahala dey worsen every day. Na wetin dem dey call leadership failure, we sabi say e dey happen.

Dalhatu also talk say during the conference, dem go gather elders, traditional leaders, intellectuals stur di matter well. Everything wey concern security, economic wahala, governance, go dey on top the table. Dem wan build better North wey go fit support farmers, teachers, and the young ones wey dey hustle for better life.

“This conference no go just be enjoyment, na serious work,” na wetin Dalhatu talk. Him de hopeful say from this conference, dem go fit start positive change for the North, and e call on everybody to lend their support.

No be joke o! Make we continue to dey watch as dem prepare for this conference and see how e go unfold. Na the jollof wey dem go serve for the North we dey hope say go fit change the narrative!
