Wetin dey happen for Naija as power grid don collapse again? E no be small matter!
Former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, don carry mouth talk about this wahala wey don dey happen again. Last Friday, our national electricity grid just collapse, and before we sabi wetin dey happen, generation don drop from over 4,500 megawatts to just 24 MW by 1:30 PM. Na so darkness carry us go, as houses and businesses all over the country don dey suffer. Dem say all 23 power plants wey connect to the grid e no get output again, and na zero allocation go our distribution companies. E be like say we dey cook trouble!
For hin statement wey he post for X, wey e title “2026: The Collapse Continues”, Obi don remind us say this na serious national disgrace. According to am, this grid failure no be new thing, as we don experience something similar last year too, when January 2025 see the first grid collapse of that year. E shed light on how this power matter don turn to regular pattern for Naija, say dis one na just continuation of the sagas!
Obi been talk say na pure disappointment be this one, comparing how our electricity access don dey fall for three years straight—from 2023 to 2025, Nigeria dey always dey at the bottom of global rankings for electricity access. Almost 100 million of our people dey waka for darkness! Abeg, wetin dey happen?
He no stop for there o! Obi don carry calculator come. E compare our power generation capacity with other African countries, and na wah oh! South Africa wey get about 64 million people dey generate over 40,000 megawatts, while Egypt with 115 million dey do same. Algeria too dey shine with over 50,000 megawatts and wey get 48 million population. But Naija, wey suppose show di whole Africa say we na giant, dey struggle to generate just 5,000 megawatts. Wetin this one talk about our productivity? No wonder we dey lag behind!
For Obi eye, this persistent power crisis no be just bad days, but e dey trace am go governance failures. E talk say competence and solid leadership na the key to solving this power wahala. “This power crisis na direct result from continuous leadership failures. The power sector be critical, and e need correct people to dey run am well,” Obi yarn.
As we dey look forward to 2027 elections, Obi don urge all Nigerians make we sabi who we go vote based on competence and empathy. “As we dey look ahead to 2027, Naija gats choose leaders wey dey show real commitment and get capacity to turn this matter around. Anything less na disaster!” he conclude.
