You no go believe wetin dey happen for Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway right now! Na serious matter wey goment don talk say dem fit close section one of dat road if indiscipline no gree waka go away. Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, don drop this warning as e dey parade suspected vandals wey dey spoil cat’s-eye reflective lights on Third Mainland Bridge.
Dis highway wey dem open for temporary sake during Christmas time just to help us waka well don turn wahala now! Umahi yarn say dem notice say motorist dey drive anyhow – some dey even drive against traffic. Wetin we go call dis kind thing if no be serious indiscipline?
“Na during Christmas period we see wetin happen here. One person die, and traffic jam no fit gree people move. Wetin suppose help us become nightmare instead,” Umahi talk. E don talk clear say dis road fit close again if the shame no go reduce fast fast.
As dem dey work on dis road, one of the workers na im lose life because of speeding motor. As the car dey high speed, e just jam two concrete solar poles, then turn and carry the worker go ground. This one na sign say safety no dey for inside that area, and Umahi no wan hear say any other life go end like this.
The minister don talk say dem go join hand with Lagos State people, police, and road traffic team to ensure say traffic dey correct for that area. If motorist no gree listen after one week, na dem go close the road till wahala clear.
“Na we all get hand for this matter,” Umahi talk. E even talk about buildings wey dem mark for demolition around completed part of the highway. E don apologize to residents say na mistake dem do dis marking, and no be dem for Federal Ministry of Works. E assure say anybody wey house dey mark go face no demolition.
Na only land wey belong to government wey dey near shore or road dem go fit acquire. Umahi wan make sure say resident no dey fear say dem go lose dem house. E gree remove any wrong marking wey don dey on top completed buildings, say dem no fit give order to scatter any house.
