Kwara State Students Protest: Governor Set Committee, School Shut Down

Chai! Wahala no dey tire person o! Kwara State don face serious gbege as students wey dey Kwara State Polytechnic for Ilorin don protest sharply! Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq don put together one strong committee to find out wetin really cause the protest wey shake the school.

This committee no be just anyhow group o! E dey chaired by the State Attorney-General, Ibrahim Sulyman. Other members wey join am na Commissioner for Environment, Hajia Nafisat Buge, and Dr Mrs Mercy Shittu wey be the Permanent Secretary for Service Welfare. Dem don give dem two weeks to return with report wey go help everybody understand wetin happen make students vex like this.

The government come add say, dem go check how the protest dey handled, plus some recommendations wey fit make sure say wahala no go happen again for the school. Na so Governor AbdulRazaq take put the Rector, Engr. Dr Abdul Jimoh Mohammed, for one corner as he dey investigate everything. The most senior Deputy Rector don dey run the place for now. Na serious matter we dey talk here o!

Before this one happen, the governor already declare say the school go close sharp-sharp after the students protest against the arrangement of the school being used as temporary NYSC orientation camp. Dem say security no dey anywhere and some students don even collect injury. Na wetin make him take this drastic step wey fit protect lives and property.

Acting Registrar of the Polytechnic, AbdulHafis Amin, don clarify say dem take this decision because the orientation camp cross path with when students go dey study. Normally, NYSC dey do their orientation when students get break, but now as everything don scatter, dem don give the students three weeks break wey don start since January 19, 2026.

But no be everybody dey happy o! Some students don talk say dem just come back from Christmas and New Year holiday, so why dem go fit just give dem break again? Na so protest come begin. The Students’ Union Government (SUG) don come out sharply condemn the wahala wey security folks use for the students wey just dey express their mind peacefully. SUG President, Maruf Ibrahim wey dem dey call ‘Analysis’, talk say students dey protest because dem no like the conversion of their school to NYSC camp, plus dem dey worry about safety, welfare, and how this go affect their academics.
