Na di Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, na im give order for di closure to protect lives and property after e hear say students don dey vex wella. According to di Acting Registrar, AbdulHafis Amin, na tensions wey rise during di protest make dem gree close di school. Wetin dem talk be say since NYSC orientation don dey happen while academic sessions dey drive, students no gree shine their eyes.
Dem try give students three-week break to cool down. But you know how e be? Some students no gree accept di break because dem just don come back from Christmas and New Year holidays wey dem don enjoy. Na so di protest begin turn fire!
As di matter dey hot, police come enter ground to help restore order, but wetin happen? Some officers carry dey fire tear gas inside di campus, including di hostels! E too much as many students and staff, even di Chief Security Officer of di Polytechnic, catch plenty yawa.
Di Students’ Union Government (SUG) no fit keep quiet, dem come out talk say di use of force no dey acceptable and dia protest na peaceful one. SUG President, Maruf Ibrahim ‘Analysis’, name wey him carry, don yarn say di students dey protest because of di wahala wey conversion of dia school to an NYSC camp dey bring.
Eyewitnesses wey dey on ground talk say di protest begin scatter when police dey fire gunshots to calm di students down, dem say e cause panic, with some students even collapsing. Di videos wey dey move round social media show dat serious security presence on di campus as students dey run for cover!
Kwara State chapter of di Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) come out hot too, condemn di excessive force wey dem use against di students. Dem talk say di state government no plan well, and di students get constitutional right to protest peacefully. E dey clear say di PDP want make police wey dey involved face proper investigation and dem go need public apology from di state government.
As dem dey talk now, di Kwara State Police never still drop official statement about di whole matter. Wetin we know be say dis one don add to di plenty concern wey dey for di security and welfare of students for universities and polytechnics across di state. E get plenty peeps wey dey call for proper dialogue and plan wey go fit balance academic activities and public safety well.
