Omo, this man talk say make Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) and Rural Electrification Agency (REA) join hand, so dem fit produce electricity components for our obodo naija, no be say we go dey import everything again.
During one meeting wey happen for Abuja, the minister yan say this partnership go involve better research, solid data collection, and proper planning. E no fit dey talk say na wetin President Bola Ahmed Tinubu wan make happen for power sector.
Nigeria power sector don face plenty wahala since dem privatise am for 2013. Infrastructure dey weak, data management dey poor, and we no get enough local manufacturing capacity to do wetin we suppose do. E clear say we no fit continue dey depend on imported power equipment, we go just dey expose ourself to currency wahala and supply wahala.
Adelabu still talk say e dey important say we go dey manufacture meters and other equipment for ourselves, because e go make Mr. President smile. E say, “Today, we go dey happy say our export dey grow pass our imports, we must encourage dis and save our foreign exchange.”
For him speech, he also talk say data na serious wahala, we no fit plan anything without am. E dey plan to start one central data pool wey go collect input from all stakeholders wey dey involved for electricity value chain, including the Generation and Distribution Companies (GenCos and DisCos). Adelabu talk say ECN must join body for this data wahala to make things better.
“We get to work on research, we need your agency to dey collaborate with the Ministry research department,” he yarn. E talk say if dem fit do all dis, all di challenges wey dey face the power sector go fit reduce significantly.
Adebayo no stop for there, e still direct make ECN dey part of the Power Sector Working Group wey dey meet every quarter. Dis group dey important so dem fit make sensible decisions wey go affect the whole sector. “You sabi say, na gas-fired plants dey rule our power mix, but we get plenty small dams wey we fit use for hydro power. Over 300 of dem dey scattered all over the country,” he add.
Im talk say if we fit develop local capacity for turbine production, we fit harness all dis small dams wey dey everywhere for beta power supply. He dey push say states too need to carry dem own load for generation, transmission, and distribution under di new Electricity Act. E no dey joke say without di local turbine production, we no fit move forward. Na dis turbines dey very critical!
In response, the Director-General of ECN, Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, don talk say dem ready to work hand in hand with di Ministry of Power to help realize di vision of President Tinubu for dis power sector to turn our economy around. E be like say better change dey come!
