As e be, states for Naija don budget N525.23 billion for security votes from 2023 to 2025. Na serious money no be small! But wetin dem dey use am do? E be like say the matter dey vex citizens as violence dey waka upandan for we country.
Dis money wey dem allocate suppose make everywhere secure, but na only wahala we dey see! From kidnap to robbery, na dem dey run the show as if dem get immunity. Na Federal Government suppose carry dis security matter for head, but governors no wan gree make dem sit down dey watch while wahala dey happen for dem states.
32 states dey include for dis analysis, but Gombe, Kebbi, Niger and Yobe no show wetin dem dey budget for security vote. Even Ekiti no fit open mouth to talk for 2025 budget matter, meaning say dis N525.23bn fit even high pass wetin dem don calculate.
Make we break am down small: for 2023, states spend N150.47bn. 2024 come gree rise to N164.07bn, before e jump to N210.68bn for 2025. Na like say security votes dey increase like say na election dey come. This jump no be just small change; na almost N60bn increase when you compare with 2023! Wetin happen for 2025? Dem dey shout say, “More cash for security!” but, where the results dey?
Borno State dey lead the pack with N57.40bn. Why? Because dem still dey fight counterinsurgency for the North East. Anambra follow with N42.57bn, na big jump from N184.90m to N17.28bn for 2024. Na wah o! Delta and Benue still dey perform, with Benue dey spend from N9.27bn in 2023 to N15.60bn in 2025.
For the other side, some states dey do low-key. Rivers don only budget N210m. Akwa Ibom go fit buy small thing with N624m, while Ekiti dey gree with just N3.1m. Dis kind money no go fit secure rat! Everybody dey wonder how dem dey prioritize wetin dey important.
2023 top spender na Bauchi, wey get N17.39bn, closely followed by Delta wey gree with N17.15bn. As 2024 come, Zamfara dey run show with N17.40bn, Anambra dey shine like bright star with N17.28bn, while Borno dey still dey spend big for N15.65bn. Fast forward to 2025, Borno still dey rule with N32.83bn, while Oyo come join the big boys with N20.09bn.
But e no end there, every year get im own wahala. Bauchi drop from N17.39bn to N12.8m in 2024, wetin be dis? Kano too join the train wey dey go down from N2.10bn to just N11.93m before dem start to rise again.
For region breakdown: North East dey take the highest share. Dem jam N113.78bn, while South East follow closely with N102.59bn, thanks to Anambra strong spending. South South no dey far behind with N98.36bn, but na South West dey carry last with N63.16bn. Na wah o, e no dey balance at all!
As e be now, people dey waka in fear as killing and kidnapping no wan gree rest. Dem dey use security votes flex muscles like say na their own money dem dey share. Analysts dey complain say dem dey use am to enrich demself instead of helping the people.
Even president no gree rest, tinubu talk say local governments for Naija suppose stand gidigba to protect di people. He dey observe say as local governments dey weaken, security issue dey strong. Na only dem sabi wetin dey happen for dem area, so make dem fit find solution.
In December 2025, labour representatives don dey shout make these governors take action. E be like say security dey affect every aspect of our life—food, transport, everything! People dey lose everyday, and communities dey suffer.
So, my people, as we dey see am, we need make sure say all dis money wey dem dey sharpe security votes no go just dey enter pocket of governors. E go make sense make dem start to show action. Na we go suffer am if nothing change.
