Ah, my people, wahala don show face for Anambra State as commuters dey suffer for motor parks. This one no be joke o! After the Yuletide don waka, many people wey wan return come their side don find their self stranded because transport fares don burst up like fly wey dey find food!
Checks wey our correspondent do show say fares don increase pass 200% across major motor parks. Na since Tuesday this kain wahala start. You fit imagine sey from Onitsha to Owerri, dem dey charge N8,000 instead of N3,500? E be like say transporters don decide say “make we cash out” because students dey return to school and everybody dey waka back home.
Even Awka to Enugu wey normally dey N3,000 don hit N6,500, while Onitsha to Awka don jump from N1,500 to N4,000. Na serious level o! Intra-state too no dey find am funny. Upper Iweka to Ihiala? You go pay N3,500 instead of N700. Na wah!
For Nnewi and Ekwulobia, our people no fit gree some drivers collect dem money any how. E be like say dem no fit see bus wey fit carry dem, as those wey dey available don overcharge, and plenty people dey carry body for motor parks. Fares from Igboukwu to Nkpor don jump from N800 to N4,000, and road wahala no fit make am better. E no go sweet when fuel price dey steady but transport fare dey scatter everywhere like kabusa!
Chukwudi Iwundu, one of the commercial drivers wey dey hustle for Goodness and Mercy Motor Park, talk say na “high demand, low supply” matter wey cause dis fare increase. He say everybody dey find transport to return home after celebrate, so e get as e be. E no go easy for them to reduce fares just like dat!
Ebere Kachi, another transporter, talk say the bad road wey dey for South-East dey spoil their motor, dey make dem spend plenty money for repairs. E call on government make dem provide mass transit scheme wey go help ease the burden wey dey on commuters.
Our people for Anambra Drivers Union still dey investigate di fare increase, but commuters dey vex! Grace Acho dey fume say she wan go Enugu but fare don rise to N12,000 from N6,000. She no gree say e dey justified, especially as fuel price dey calm down.
Michael Uche, one student from Upper Iweka, yarn say di matter don reach “height of wickedness.” E complain sey the driver wey carry dem from Enugu don change di ticket price many times until dem pay N3,000 after stranded for a while. Wetin be dis kind level of extortion?
As everybody dey shout “this no go better,” we just dey observe how this whole matter go end. Whether na wahala or change go happen, we go keep an eye on top am!
