My people, na wah o! Lagos State government dey defend dem demolition wey dem dey carry out for Makoko.
Dem just decide sey dem go clear area wey plenty people dey call home, but as dem plan protest, e no really gel. Only small group of youths gather for water side to show their anger.
Dey carry placards wey talk plenty things like “Please hear our cry” and “Protect our homes, save our families.” Na serious matter be dis, but wetin happen? Dem no gather enough people wey go make dem government shake.
Mr. Gbolahan Oki, wey be Permanent Secretary for Urban Development, come talk say na only those wey no wan carry their load waka dey complain. He talk sey dem don dey negotiate with Makoko people for five years, but some stubborn boys no gree. E even clarify sey dem dey demo for safety, say e fit endanger people if power line fall inside water.
“If power line fall into water, na we go hear am from dem,” Oki talk. Na wetin dem dey try avoid, and he no shy to talk wetin dey on ground.
Oki come vex say the condition for waterfront no good, ask sey “Is that how the waterfront of any country look?” Wetin e dey try talk be sey dem need clear up wetin no dey nice for Makoko.
He also raise eyebrow about the supposed 100 metres setback wey dem suppose maintain from power lines, say actually e fit reach 250 metres. So, giving dem only 100 metres be as e no dey for road.
This demolition na part of Lagos urban regeneration programme, wey dem dey run to make sure say Lagos fit become megacity. Similar things don happen for other areas like Oworonshoki and Mile 12. Na so dem dey enforce building regulations and make sure say everywhere dey ok according to urban planning laws.
My people, matter no be joke, but the way dem dey handle am fit make person laugh or vex depending on your side. No be easy to see home dey shift like that, but government get their reasons. Wetin you fit talk about dis matter?
