Na N3.50 trillion new projects dem dey propose, even dey go against wetin dem don talk before about carry over 70 percent of 2025 money into 2026. No be small matter, as dem don jam N844.49 billion new entries from Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
This budget na serious kasala, because as e stand, the whole N3.50 trillion new projects dey represent about 15.09 percent of the total capital budget of N23.21 trillion wey dem plan for 2026. No be joke at all! E fit mean say dem dey try sharp-sharp run am into pockets.
Remember say last December, Federal Government come order MDAs make dem carry over 70 percent of their capital budget from 2025. Na for so dem fit finish wetin dem dey do before wasting money on new things wey no necessary! But who we go blame for dis new project wahala wey dem don begin chop?
The Service-Wide Votes wey dey inside these new projects carry N2.66 trillion come, and na this one dey cause the highest allocation like say na government dem wan use am support the security level. But na wetin I know be say, 82 MDAs don still drop one or two fresh new capital items before, with more than 400 new projects wey dey range from big infrastructure to boreholes and training programs.
Chai! No be small! Dem just dey forget the oga directive wey tell dem make dem no seek fresh projects. The largest single wahala for this budget na N1.70 trillion wey dem dey put for contractor’s liabilities from 2024. Na so one item dey chop half of the total new projects eh! If no be small thing!
For MDAs, de Budget Office don carry the highest new project provision of N375 billion to do wetin dem call multilateral or bilateral tied loan for Power Sector Recovery Operation. Dis one dey even bigger pass wetin plenty other MDAs dey propose together.
The Federal Ministry of Transport no wan carry last come as e put N210.53 billion naira for new projects wey dey cover railway and bus terminal constructions. E mean say dem dey serious about transporting Nigerians much better.
Other agencies wan show face too! The National Library of Nigeria dey plan N24 billion for renovations across all zones. Na good plan be this, as dem dey try put their house in order to improve reading culture.
But the paddy paddy no just dey get rest for wey dey Nigerian blood service. Dem don propose N15 billion for constructing blood service centre to make sure say wil help save lives anytime blood dey needed. Na wetin e mean to be proper governance!
However, no be so for other MDAs, as some dey think say dis new projects na their play money. Dem suppose remember say if dem continue this way, e go turn wahala for our economy. As experts don talk say this kind pattern no dey strong. Wetin remain now be to see wetin dey happen next and how National Assembly go fit scrutinise all these spending plans.
