Na wah! E be like say inDrive don put e-hailing drivers for wahala as dem dey shout say dem dey charge double VAT. As the new year enter, drivers wey dey use inDrive begin notice say dem dey carry 7.5% VAT from dem fares, then e still dey add another 7.5% for commission. Wetin be this if no be double taxation?
One driver wey gree yarn with Technext talk say, ‘As I jump enter new year for my first trip, I carry eyes see say commission too much. Later, I check narration, come find say VAT dey enter twice. Wetin be all this?’ Na real gbege!
The drivers no dey happy at all. According to dem, di new trip narration dey display VAT of 7.5% for every trip wey dem dey carry passengers. Then another 7.5% dey waka enter for inDrive service payment, wey dem dey collect as commission. But according to the drivers, this VAT suppose follow inDrive own side since dem dey claim sey dem no be transport company.
Drivers dey talk say if government wan collect VAT, make dem carry am waka from inDrive commission, not for the fare wey dem dey collect. As e stand, if e be sey inDrive dey chop 9.99% commission plus that double VAT, total wey dem dey collect for every trip don jump to about 20%!
No be only that one oh, even di Amalgamated Union of App-Based Transporters join the gist, dem dey reject di 7.5% VAT say na discrimination. Dem talk say other transport workers wey dey operate for street, garage, and car parks no dey pay all this VAT, so why e go just dey apply to e-hailing drivers? Na wetin we dey ask too!
Di union don call on di federal government make dem reconsider dis VAT wahala wey dey put heavy load for driver pocket. Dem all dey complain say dis kind tax wey dem dey face dey affect their standard of living and dey make money no dey carry belle again.
Na serious matter be dat! Nothing wey dem dey urge now be say make di tax guys sit down with dem, make dem understand how dis e-hailing matter dey work, instead of putting heavy burden on only e-hailing drivers. Make e no be say dem dey pick and choose who go pay VAT, wey fit turn di whole transport matter upside down!
