Kemi Adeosun Dey Raise N500m For Orphanages, Talk Tax Reform

Omo, na serious matter wey dey happen for Nigeria oh! Former Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, don drop bold gist say her social enterprise, DashMe Stores, don raise over N500 million to help vulnerable people and orphanages across Naija.

She clear say DashMe wey she found for 2021 don grow well well from just one small outlet to network of charity stores wey dey turn donated items into cash wey dey support social projects. As e be now, dem don open stores for Abuja and Lagos, with plan to open for Abeokuta next month!

For her interview wey she do with Channels Television, Adeosun talk say the goal na to expand into big cities like Ibadan, Port Harcourt, and Kano. Dem don already start to make connection for these areas. E sweet for mouth as she dey explain how dem dey use partnership to reach areas wey dem no fit dey physically.

She say, “For each place, we dey find partners. People dey ready to join hand with us. Wetin we dey do dey resonate.” And no be small thing o, because she talk say all the money dem dey raise, go directly to help people. “Na not-for-profit model we dey run, every kobo wey we make dey go back into helping vulnerable people, na only staff for shop dey chop money,” she explain.

As she take dey talk, she show say dem don build four orphanages from ground up and even dey refurbish places wey don dey suffer neglect. One orphanage wey dem vandalize before Christmas pain am well well, but Adeosun strong say dem go complete the work no matter wetin happen.

Adeosun dey also shine light on poverty matter. She clear say no be only Nigeria get poverty wahala, everywhere dey fight am. “Every country get how dem dey classify poverty. China dey hold the title for the highest number of people wey dey poverty even with their booming economy,” she yan.

She gatz talk say Nigeria dey big, so the figures go always dey high. Wetin important na how people fit move from that poverty zone to better life. “Generational poverty na the real wahala we need to face,” she talk.

Education and enterprise be the surest way out of this poverty wahala. As she dey talk, Adeosun gree say young people wey fit find light through education dey give hope to others wey dey inside them.” One person wey come out from poverty fit help many more with support,” she yan.

She also no forget talk about how government dey follow behind people wey dey start initiatives. “Na people dey start things, the government go come later collect am. Na wetin dey happen for UK,” she said, as she remind us how dem promise to support DashMe when she wan refurbish one state-run orphanage.

When she flashback her time as finance minister, she talk say fuel subsidy removal no be optional, because na serious wahala wey dey wreck the country. “No minister fit deny say subsidy dey kill us,” she talk, as she advise say government need to find solution wey go help people adapt to policy changes.

Adeosun dey also back tax reforms wetin dey happen right now. She talk say compliance dey weak, especially for big boys with plenty money wey dey avoid pay tax. “When you dey Minister of Finance, if everybody like you, no be good sign,” she talk.

For governance matter, she praise Tinubu administration for working on data harmonisation across agencies and share say na the way to improve tax collection. “Once you harmonise data, e go hard for anyone to hide,” she say.

As for security issues, Adeosun don see say the current administration dey wake up to confront the wahala, but she caution say e no go change overnight. “Insecurity no start overnight, and e no go end like that. But we suppose dey see serious efforts to tackle am,” she conclude.
