For Uganda, e no dey play small! Dem report say real GDP don rise to 6.3% for FY2024/2025. E don increase from 6.1% wey dey happen before. Na household consumption, government spending, and both public and private investment wey dey grow like pepper dem say na im carry the matter waka. Poverty levels dey decline small small as economic condition dey improve. Na so e be!
The report talk say inflation no dey high at all, as e average 3.5%, wey dey below Bank of Uganda target of 5%. As commodity prices dey stable, inflation no dey make noise. But e get wahala wey dey come as fiscal pressures dey rise; dem dey worry about fiscal deficit and public debt spike, e go need serious attention!
Na only good news wey dey shine for Uganda, World Bank dey predict say Uganda economy go just dey shine for the medium term. E go dey supported by continuous strength for exports and fresh influx of foreign direct investment. If oil revenue start to dey drop in 2027, na that time we go see whether na real blessing or wahala.
Dem also dey talk say despite all the beta dem dey see now, economic na still dey jam for agriculture wey no dey productive! Omo, wetin we go do? Economic transformation to higher value added activity dey important! Agriculture industry suppose carry the torch now.
World Bank talk say dem get policy priorities for Uganda wey go support agro-industrialization. First, dem go need better infrastructure for climate-smart agriculture; second, policy reform wey go help farmer cooperative and access to finance; third, na mobilizing private capital through digital platforms. Na wetin World Bank dey promote! If we fit achieve this, dem believe sey the economy go dey lay good foundation.
But make we no forget say for all this positive move, we still dey face risks! Climate change fit spoil things if rain no fall, and we fit see poverty levels rise again. So, make we draw wisdom from Japan and manage this journey well o! If we fit follow the right path, wey World Bank dey show, Uganda sure go be stronger.
