My people, e be like say Christmas don bring us better news for petrol matter! Plenty queue dey for MRS filling stations as dem dey sell petrol wey come from Dangote refinery for just N739 per litre. E be like say na so the jolly season go dey sweet for motorists wey dey waka from Lagos Island go mainland. Some filling stations wey dey sell petrol more than N800 don calm down small, because as MRS don enter market, na dem dey lose customers.
As we dey cruise for Lagos, e get one marketer wey talk say, ‘Those dead stations wey no wan make price drop, na dem go suffer pass for this Christmas. Anywhere dem see MRS stations, na there dem go carry dem motor go jam.’ Na real talk, my people; competition dey sharp like razor blade!
December 12, Dangote come open eye, slash the petrol price from N828 to N699, and you know say this na big move wey scatter ground. E come make all the other stations rush to adjust their prices, just to keep their heads above water for this fuel wahala wey don dey since time!
Aliko Dangote himself don talk say, ‘Omo, we no fit allow marketers to keep selling petrol high. We go make sure nobody dey buy from N740 upward.’ Na dat kind strong word wey e dey use for dis competitive market.
Chinedu Ukadike from Independent Petroleum Marketers Association talk say; ‘Marketers wey no fit bring their prices down na dem go lose customers.’ And trust me, the pressure dey plenty for dem, no be small. Those ones wey still dey try sell for old price, na dem go dey see customers waka pass jare.
But some marketers dey complain say only Dangote no fit supply all the petrol wey Nigeria need. E get one big wahala wey dey affect the downstream sector, and dem dey warn say make we no put all our eggs for one basket. Clement Isong from Major Energies Marketers Association don shout say, ‘E no go better make us dey rely on only one refinery; logistics and timing don dey cause yawa.’
Despite the hustle and bustle for petrol price, NNPC don join the party too, dey reduce their price from N875 down to between N825 and N840. Dem dey try to keep their head above water as imports don still dey come in from abroad. Dem no wan lose customers to Dangote.
Now, even as marketers dey lose money nko, Dangote himself don dey see monetary loss too. Omo, e dey risk N90 billion monthly because of the new price regime. Wetin you go expect when competition dey sharp? But Dangote no carry last; he don launch hotline to report any filling station wey dey sell petrol above N739 per litre. That one go help maintain fair pricing for the people.
As Christmas dey come, we dey hope say the queues go reduce small as plenty stations go start to cut their prices. Make una shine eyes, and no let anybody chop una money for fuel wey dey sell pass the right price. Christmas go sweet if we fit buy petrol no wahala!
