Abuja, Nigeria – Federal Government don start serious training for 260,000 citizens under di Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) initiative!
Di Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, announce am on Thursday as he waka go inspect some TVET operational centres for Abuja. E talk say dem wan train over 900,000 Nigerians through di program in different phases (chai, dem go need plenty energy to manage all dis people o!)
Alausa explain say di koko of dis initiative na to equip youths wit relevant skills wey go fit help dem dey independent and create jobs for themselves. “Dis na one of over 2,600 skills training centres wey dey operate for di country. We dey start wit 260,000 trainees, and di next phase go carry us closer to our target of 960,000,” he talk.
Di training dey happen for all di 36 states and di Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as we speak. E don promise di participants say government go support dem wit stipends during di training, plus starter packs and grants wey go help dem set up their businesses wen dem finish di program (as if na small matter!)
According to Alausa, dis program na part of President Bola Tinubu vision to revamp vocational education make e be one strong pillar for di nation’s education system. “We need to go back to when TVET dey strong for our education. Our youths no lazy; dem dey wait for opportunity, and na wetin President Tinubu dey provide soh,” he talk.
He also drop di gist say di president don approve say five percent of di Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) budget go dey reserved to support TVET training. “Di president don give green light for five percent of TETFund’s annual budget to back TVET training. Na major step towards sustainability be dis,” he say.
Alausa reiterate di government’s commitment to help Nigerians gather practical skills for self-employment, global competitiveness, and economic growth. One of di trainees, Ms Kosi Anoliefo, wey dey train for di farming category express her gratitude for di opportunity. “When I graduate, I no get job. Dis program go help us become self-reliant and face unemployment head-on,” she talk.
Another participant, Ms Margaret Okunsanya, wey dey learn fashion design, say di application process no gree give her wahala. “I see di opportunity online, apply, and get congratulatory message for my training. I dey very happy to be part of am,” she share her excitement.
Di TVET initiative wey commence for June na part of di current administration’s effort to boost skills development and empower di youth. Di training dey last between six and twelve months depending on di type of work (na this kind hard work be dis!). Areas wey dem dey cover include livestock production, automated pottery, fishing, and other trade. Dis training dey happen for over 2,600 centres across di country.
